Position title: Professor of Practice, Tulane University
Dr. Lesley-Ann Noel is a Professor of Practice in Design Thinking and the Associate Director of Design Thinking for Social Impact at the Taylor Center for Social Innovation and Design Thinking at Tulane University in New Orleans. Her work focuses on emancipatory and critical design thinking and design methods, on the experiences of people who are often excluded from research, and on building a greater critical awareness among designers and design students. Her research also highlights the work of designers outside of Europe and North America. In her professional practice, she draws on the fields of design, anthropology, business, and education.
Prior to Tulane University, she was a Teaching Fellow and lecturer at the d.school at Stanford University. She was also a lecturer at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago.
She completed her PhD in Design at North Carolina State University, where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Her doctoral research focused on design thinking at a rural primary school in Trinidad and Tobago. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of the West Indies and a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Universidade Federal do Paraná.
