“I’m motivated to make a positive impact in this world, it might not be a big impact, but I know that I am not the only one, and all those little impacts will make a big difference.” Efrain’s commitment to succeed in life encouraged him to pursue higher education. He was rewarded with a scholarship that covered all his undergraduate studies at Universidad Francisco Marroquin in Guatemala City. After pursuing a degree in business administration with specialization in marketing, Efrain worked as a Total Quality Management Specialist, working in different projects from the United States Agency for International Development, as well as with other nonprofit organizations in Guatemala. The projects addressed issues in different departments of the government of Guatemala, specifically in the areas of health care and public finances. He collaborated in the design and redesign of process, services and systems, as well as conceptualizing software. He has a MicroMaster in User Experience, Research and Design, from the University of Michigan. Currently he is a student in the MS Design + Innovation at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After finishing the master program, he wants to pursue a career as a UX Researcher.
During his free time, Efrain volunteers for ESL helping students from Guatemala to learn English. He also helps his former high school by rising funds to build more classrooms, so that students from low-income families can have an opportunity to continue studies.
